Kenneth "Wayne" Avery - Obituary

enneth Wayne Avery Jr. (Age 62) Known to all as "Wayne", lived on the Mayo Peninsula for the last 42 years with his wife, Mary Kathleen (Katy) Avery. He was born May 9, 1964 in Trenton, New Jersey to John Stanley Rogalski (Deceased) and Barbara Lou Becket (Deceased). He passed on August 29, 2026 at Medstar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, MD from complications from a hemorrhagic aneurysm. Wayne studied criminal law at Anne Arundel and Chesapeake Community colleges. He was a Retired Sergeant with the Maryland Natural Resources Police, serving from May 1985 - May 2011. He kept himself busy after that with any and all handyman projects. He was a faithful member of Carter Memorial SDA Church in Warsaw, VA. Wayne was a passionate outdoorsman. He often told people that fishing was something to do until hunting season! He never lost the excitement of the hunt and found renewed enjoyment in hunting turkey. He was a sportsman and took competition to the next level, just ask anyone that played him in a "Friendly" game of anything! He was an accomplished cook; we often told him that he had ruined restaurants for all of us. He loved to feed people. He was a creative handyman and enjoyed the opportunity to help people. He loved to spend time in his peaceful place, the campsite in Colonial Beach VA, and he enjoyed getting to know the Northern Neck. Conversations around the campfire often steered toward Jesus, one of Wayne's favorite topics. Besides his wife, Katy, Wayne leaves a son, Carl Wayne (Michele) Avery of Glen Burnie, MD, and a daughter, Rachel Marie Avery of Ridgely, MD; two sisters, Barbara (Steve) Harmel, and Wynee (Marty) Zehner of Davidsonville, MD; four grandsons, Mason Spranza, Austin Spranza, Kamden Luke Avery and Remington John Avery; and two granddaughters, Caliana Mae Avery and Maliah Leilani Avery. Relatives and friends are invited to Wayne’s life celebration and viewing on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 10 AM to 12 PM, followed by his funeral service at 12, at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Entombment will follow immediately at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. A reception will follow the entombment in the fellowship hall at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville.
